Vision and the Visionary

Dr. V. V. alias Appaji Pendse along with a small team of educationists and social workers founded Jnana Prabodhini (JP) in 1962. In the initial 20 years, Jnana Prabodhini’s experiments in formal and informal educational activities received wide attention and appreciation from many quarters. In 1983, senior educationists at JP further articulated Dr Pendse’s vision, as under:
“Jnana Prabodhini’s work should assume the status of an Open University as early as possible. Therefore, to impart education in subjects taught in global universities of the upcoming sciences and to devise their curricula, to award diplomas, degrees, post-graduate or research degrees including small modular courses, to provide facilities for the studies of such subjects to provide for practical experiences through all kinds of experiments and collecting resources, erecting laboratories or experimental fields, undertake projects and schemes and to run all and similar activities.”
Mission
Jnana Prabodhini Mukta Vidya Kendra (JPMVK) is a new initiative of Jnana Prabodhini (JP) and Jnana Prabodhini Samshodhan Sanstha (JPSS). JP’s educational activities began in 1962. Since its inception, the institute’s
educational philosophy is based on Swami Vivekananda’s Vision of Education for India- Education for Man-Making and Nation-Building. The JPMVK alias Open Learning Centre (OLC) aspires to reach out to citizens in general and young students in particular equipping them with appropriate knowledge, skills and most importantly attitudes and motivation in multi-disciplinary domains. These include; Psychology, Education, Entrepreneurship, Indian Philosophy, Quality of Life, Mental well-being and more. A group of 70 highly accomplished alumni and well wishers of JP and JPSS came together in early 2024 to brainstorm the design of JPMVK and subsequent execution over the coming decade. JPMVK plans to offer a bouquet of courses in colleges and educational institutions implementing the NEP. It will also offer online courses (virtual, self-paced modules) to citizens on the lines of MOOC format.
